A physician and a photographer decided to return to their childhood home of Aleppo to help local residents living under siege by government troops. After witnessing first-hand the horrific siege, the chaos of the medical system and the collapse of civil life altogether, they had no choice but to leave and return to the peaceful west.

Director's Profile
Lina Sinjab is an independent filmmaker and a BBC correspondent in Beirut. In 2013, she directed Suryyat, a film about womens situation during the civil uprising in Syria.

Director's Note
The plight of attacked medical team has never stopped. All over Syria, this was the main target for the regime so no one would be rescued when there is an attack. I wanted to tell the story of medical team at length and Aleppo was under siege and heavy bombardment. Al Quds hospital was then the last operating one and I wanted to document the incredible risk doctors are taking. But now they are all like me, forced to leave and can't go back. Majaneen Halab is not only a film about Aleppo and its collapse, it is a story of how these people managed to maintain their humanity, how they laughed during bombardment, embraced being together and mocked the madness of war.
