Gevar moved to France from Syria with his family and decided to rent a piece of land to grow vegetables. Over the next year, the land proved to be a rollercoaster ride of hope and disappointment filled with sweat and tears. The conflict that has torn his home apart may be far away, but the shadows of terrorism and violence of the war continue to haunt the family today.

Director's Profile
Born in Damascus suburbs, Qutaiba Barhamji is a film editor and director. He grew up moving between Syria and Russia, where he studied medicine. In 2005, he settled and studied film in Paris.

Director's Note
During four seasons, I want to film the everyday life of Gevar, a Syrian refugee, whose small garden on the outskirts of a run-down housing project became a reason to be. Or, rather, a reason to take care of, and to occupy a space. He, the exile, the displaced person, the uprooted one... Gevar’s land explores the mysterious powers of the earth, capable of restoring an organic link between a man and a space. But also, between the lines, the film questions the idea of territory, which often goes closely with the need to erect borders. Here: what belongs to me, and there: what belongs to you.
