Synopsis
The 'Floating Mushroom', a traditional fixture in Hong Kong’s public housing estates, is home to many local food stalls. Confronted with construction halts, re-purchase and upscaling in recent years, this kind of local grassroot eatery is now facing extinction. This film follows the final four seasons of one of the 'Floating Mushrooms'. Its owner who spent most of his life running his stall talks about the changes in the past 36 years, documenting Hong Kong’s Pood culture and the way of life in public housing.

Elyse Hon is a writer and filmmaker. Having worked in the media industry for 20 years, she specialises in profiles and in-depth reporting.

Director's Note
"It is one thing the shop closes down because you did not manage it well, but quite another when you run it properly. I am still not reconciled to the fact that the distinctive flavour of local hawker's food has been wiped out." said Mr Chow who runs Chan Kun Kee. Emerged in the 1970s, food kiosks in public housing estates were considered noisy and chaotic, still there are some who cheer for it. Their disappearance in a market economy is the story of not only an industry, but also today's Hong Kong.
