Chen Chih-Han
Taiwan / 2019 / 71 min
In Mandarin with Chi & Eng Sub

The story of two individuals whose lives are tied to medical ventilators, much like the countless patients in Taiwan whose survival depends on that same piece of equipment: one suffers from full-body paralysis, while the other is tormented by the prospect of having to take his mother off life support following a stroke-induced coma.

Director's Profile
Maso Chen is a director and cinematographer. He established The Classic Vision Co., Ltd. with director, Wuna Wu. Their works, The Dream Never Sets, Working, with Child Around and The Silent Teacher, have been shown at many international film festivals.

Director's Note
In 2013, I started shooting The Silent Teacher; I entered medical school and saw a cadaver lying on the table. I was exploring how, after life has reached its end, it affects people around us. I made another film Hospital in 2014, in the regional hospital in Pingtung. Since then, I have seen more and more medical problems in Taiwan arising and growing. I want to use the documentary to lead the audience to go deeper and understand the thoughts behind the medical problems.
