Roy Dames, Jos Driessen
Netherlands / 2019 / 89min
In English, Dutch and Swahili with Chi & Eng Sub

A white male retiree from Belgium sets out on a sexual quest to Kenya where he was considered“Prince Charming”and given the royal treatment by his African conquests. In the course of his sexual indulgence, he also unveils a dark past that is marred by relationship, gender, ethnic and cultural conflicts.

Director's Profile
For over 20 years, Roy Dames has produced more than 50 documentaries. The main subject of his works are people who live on the fringes of society.

Jos Driessen is a documentary editor and has worked with many wellknown Dutch directors. He is the director of two films in collaboration with Roy Dames, and the screenwriter of the feature film Little Sister (1995).

Director's Note
"Without money there can never be love," says one of Gilbert's African girlfriends. But does that mean that this love is not real love? Can we in our Western world separate love from money? Our Western rock stars and sporting heroes are beset by groupies. Nurses lust after surgeons. So what is this“real love”? It's a question which occupied Roy Dames and Jos Driessen while they were making their documentary. Why were all those young women in tears saying goodbye to the laid out body of Belgian protagonist Gilbert, a man who had insulted and betrayed them during his life?
